Bitcoin, one of the twenty
first centuries most prolific invention is playing an important role in
the global economic order. Bitcoins total valuation of $29 Billion is
just a fraction of the economy it powers. The underlying Blockchain
technology responsible for Bitcoin is transforming several industries such as banking, e-commerce, legal contracts and logistics. Bitcoin, possesses all characteristics of money. In the current study we study the bitcoin
adoption drivers and blockers in society. We perform a multi-modal
qualitative study that includes interviews, longitudinal surveys about
key drivers and blockers for Bitcoin
Adoption. Based on our qualitative analysis and clustering of our
subjects based on these drivers and barriers we present the digital
divide continuum for Bitcoin. Finally, we suggest remedial measures for increasing adoption amongst users and non-users of Bitcoin.
